Foundation types

  • A strip foundation is a closed contour of concrete or reinforced concrete elements, which is built under all the load-bearing walls of a future building and transfers the weight of buildings evenly to the ground.
  • A monolithic foundation is a type of foundation widely used in the construction of basic structures for brick and block houses, as well as buildings with powerful reinforced concrete floors. The method of monolithic formation of foundations finds its application in cases where the soil has an uneven structure.
  • A slab foundation is a type of foundation used for structures, and is a continuous structure made of concrete or reinforced concrete, or consisting of assembled blocks, on which the walls of a building are built. This type of foundation is used in areas with increased external loads and high groundwater levels, providing a reliable foundation for the structure.
  • A pile foundation is a type of foundation designed and built taking into account the joint activity of piles. In this type of foundation, piles take full or partial load from the underground and / or above-ground parts of a building or structure and transfer it to the ground, thereby ensuring the stability and reliability of the structure.
  • Column foundation - is a constructive solution, which consists in creating a base of vertical columns placed in the corners of the forthcoming structure and at the places of the planned intersection of walls, including load-bearing elements. Such a foundation is usually used in the construction of small and light buildings, providing them with a stable foundation.
  • A combined foundation is a combination of several types of foundations into one structure. This method is widely used in the construction of structures in difficult geographical conditions, where it is required to ensure maximum stability and reliability. Among the most common types of such foundations, one can distinguish a pile-column or column-strip foundation, which allows you to combine the advantages of different approaches.

Features of dismantling different types of foundation

Dismantling of the concrete foundation

Methods for dismantling the foundation are closely related to its material and depth. An important factor is also the possibility of access to the site of heavy equipment.

Dismantling strip foundations, whether made of concrete or brick, manually is too complicated and time consuming. Instead, a wheeled excavator with a hydraulic hammer and bucket is used. This highly effective technique allows the foundation to be crushed into small pieces, after which they can be removed from the formed trench. For the removal of construction debris, special onboard dump trucks are used.

Monolithic reinforced foundations with internal reinforcement or small-sized concrete slabs can be destroyed using a wheeled tractor equipped with a hydraulic hammer. For larger demolition tasks, more powerful tracked vehicles are used to increase productivity.

When dismantling a pile foundation with deeply driven supports into the ground, it is necessary to dig and remove. The excavator is used to pull short piles. It is believed that piles contribute to the strengthening of loose soils. In this context, piles are usually cut below the level of the future foundation, leaving the buried parts in the ground, which contributes to the strengthening of the soil.

Pillar foundations are in most cases dismantled manually using a sledgehammer and a puncher. However, there are exceptions, for example, if the base of the house was additionally reinforced with concrete or it is located deep underground. In such scenarios resort to the use of a wheeled tractor with a hydraulic hammer. If it is impossible to drive up to the foundation, a manual concrete breaker with a compressor is used.

The process of dismantling any type of foundation necessarily involves manual labor. It plays an important role in separating reinforcement from concrete, sorting and cleaning construction debris.

Stages of dismantling foundations

The main stages of dismantling different types of foundations:

  1. Cleaning the area around the foundation from debris.
  2. Digging the foundation using a bucket - either full or partial.
  3. Destruction of the base with a hydraulic hammer, chipper or sledgehammer adapted to the strength of the material.
  4. Removal of generated construction debris.
  5. Leveling the area where the foundation was located, and thorough cleaning of all debris.

Methods for dismantling foundations

The process of dismantling the foundation with a hydraulic hammer consists of the following steps:

  • A hydraulic hammer is a specialized attachment mounted on an excavator boom, operating on the principle of a jackhammer. It is used to destroy the foundation, crush bricks or concrete.
  • After the demolition of the foundation, a loader or excavator with a bucket loads the crushed brick or concrete into special dump trucks.
  • The process of removing the old foundation from the site is underway.

This method provides an efficient and safe demolition of the old foundation, reducing the time and labor costs for this operation.

The procedure for dismantling a concrete foundation using an excavator bucket includes the following steps:

  1. The excavator bucket is optimally suited for dismantling concrete foundation blocks.
  2. Foundation blocks usually weigh more than a ton and are laid into the ground in 2-3 rows. The excavator can easily dig and load the blocks into a dump truck.
  3. For some cases, the excavator bucket can also be used to dismantle the strip brick foundation.
  4. Destroying foundations with a conventional excavator is complicated, as a specialized vehicle (trawl) is often required to bring the excavator to the site. This can increase the cost of dismantling the foundation. Therefore, this method is used either for very large amounts of work, or when the house and foundation are demolished together by an excavator.

Dismantling the foundation with manual jackhammers. When do you need to remove the foundation from the site. This method is most suitable when access to the site is limited by machinery or when the foundation is small, such as columnar. Demolition of concrete foundations with manual jackhammers is physically laborious and time consuming, especially for monolithic structures. Due to the intensity of labor costs, the cost of manual dismantling of a monolithic foundation is much higher than using machinery.

FOUNDATION DISMANTLING TECHNOLOGIES

Analysis of the old foundationThere are several methods for dismantling the foundation, each of which has its own efficiency, cost and applicability in different conditions:

  • Machine-assisted demolition: This includes the use of specialized machines such as excavators with hydraulic breakers or heavy tracked tractors. It is effective for large volumes of work and concrete structures, but can be costly due to the need to attract specialized equipment. The price of dismantling a concrete foundation per m3 can be more profitable due to faster work.
  • Manual demolition: In this method, the foundation is dismantled manually using tools such as jackhammers and sledgehammers. It is suitable for small jobs or in cases where equipment cannot drive up. However, this is a laborious and time-consuming method.
  • Combined dismantling: Uses a combination of different methods depending on conditions. For example, start dismantling with machinery, and then complete with manual methods in places where machinery cannot reach.
  • Dismantling using explosion: It is used in extreme cases when the foundation is too massive. Requires specialized skills and licenses.

Dismantling of various types of foundations can be done in different ways, depending on their design and characteristics:

  • Brick foundation: A brick foundation, especially if it is not buried, can be dismantled by hand with relative ease. This method is well suited for small-scale work and in the absence of heavy equipment.
  • Strip footing: If the concrete strip footing has thick reinforcement, special equipment such as diamond cutting may be required. This affects the price of dismantling the strip foundation and is especially important when dismantling strip foundations with massive reinforcement.
  • Cast-in-place foundations: Removing cast-in-place foundations requires the use of heavy equipment and can take a long time. Technique may periodically require stops for "rest". For more complex cases, blasting may be the best option, but this is only possible if there is sufficient distance from other structures.
  • Concrete and Reinforced Concrete Foundations: The dismantling of reinforced concrete foundations is often done using diamond drilling or the hydrocline method. These methods allow more precise control of dismantling and minimize environmental impact.

The choice of dismantling method depends on the specific conditions, the size of the foundation, the availability of equipment and the budget.
